Spartanburg Methodist College

Bridges Hall & Moore Athletic Facilities

Spartanburg Methodist College is one of the Upstate's most recognized educational institutions, serving students year-round through residential life, academics, and athletics. When the college identified end-of-life roofing conditions on certain residential and athletic buildings, they needed a roofing partner capable of delivering premium results across two very different building types without disrupting the daily rhythm of a working campus.

Bridges Hall, a residential building housing students throughout the academic year, required a full reroof including replacement of edge metal. The existing shingle system had reached the end of its serviceable life, and the college needed a solution that would provide long-term weather protection for the students and property inside. The Moore athletic complex project included both steep-slope shingle areas and flat or low-slope roof sections, each requiring a different roofing system and approach. Edge metal and step flashing needed full replacement on the shingle sections, while the flat roof areas required new edge metal across the entire surface along with new coping installation.

Beyond the technical scope, both projects demanded careful coordination. An active college campus means foot traffic, student housing schedules, athletic programming, and administrative operations all happening simultaneously. The roofing contractor needed to work around the institution's schedule and maintain safe job sites at all times. The college was looking for a consultative partner with the experience, local permanence, and self-performing crews to handle complex institutional work with integrity and professionalism.

Bridges Residential Hall

Cannon Roofing completed a full reroof of Bridges Residential Hall using CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black, supplied through QXO. The Landmark line is one of the most respected architectural shingle products on the market, offering a Class A fire rating and strong wind resistance, which are critical considerations for a building that houses students. Cannon's self-performing crews removed the existing roof system down to the deck, inspected the substrate for any underlying damage, and installed the new shingle system with meticulous attention to manufacturer specifications.

All edge metal along the roof perimeter was replaced to ensure proper water management and a clean, finished appearance that reflects the standard expected on a college campus. Every detail, from material staging to debris removal, was managed by Cannon's own team, not subcontractors, ensuring consistent quality and accountability from start to finish.

Moore Athletic Facilities

The Moore Athletic Facilities required a dual-system approach. The steep-slope sections received the same CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black, along with full replacement of edge metal and step flashing. Proper step flashing installation is essential on institutional buildings where wall-to-roof transitions must be sealed against water infiltration for years of reliable performance.

The flat roof sections of the Moore complex received a Johns Manville 60 mil TPO membrane system, also supplied through QXO. TPO is an industry-leading single-ply roofing membrane known for its reflective properties, weldable seam strength, and long-term durability in commercial and institutional applications. Cannon replaced all edge metal over the entire flat roof area and installed new coping to cap and protect the parapet walls. Coping replacement is a detail that many contractors overlook or defer, but Cannon's consultative approach means identifying every component that affects the long-term integrity of the roofing system—not just the membrane itself.

Across both buildings, Cannon coordinated work schedules during the summer months to minimize disruption to campus life.

Why Institutional Clients Trust Cannon

Spartanburg Methodist College joins a growing portfolio of institutional and educational projects completed by Cannon Roofing across the Upstate, including recent work at Wofford College and Converse University. These projects share common requirements that align directly with Cannon's strengths: complex scopes requiring multiple roofing systems, active environments demanding careful coordination, and institutional stakeholders who need a contractor they can trust without constant oversight.

Cannon's service model also means the relationship does not end when the last shingle is installed. Structured maintenance programs, annual service checks, and documented roof condition tracking give institutional clients a proactive approach to roof management that protects their investment and simplifies long-term budgeting. When the next maintenance decision arises, the team already knows the building, its history, and what comes next.
